Product Introduction
Celery powder is a versatile ingredient derived from dried and ground celery. It is widely used for its flavor-enhancing properties and as a natural preservative in organic meat products. The powder retains the essential nutrients and flavors of celery, making it a valuable addition to various recipes.
Production Process
The production of celery powder involves several steps. Fresh celery is harvested, washed, and chopped. It is then blanched and separated into juice and solids. The juice is pasteurized, concentrated, and dried using a vacuum dryer. Some celery powders are made directly from celery juice, which is pasteurized and dried. The final product is inspected, packaged, and ready for use[1].
Nutrition Facts
Celery powder is rich in vitamins and minerals, including potassium and magnesium. It also contains antioxidants like apigenin and luteolin, which contribute to its health benefits. The fiber content in celery powder can be around 10.51 grams per 100 grams[4]. Additionally, celery powder is a good source of nitrates, which are beneficial for organic meat curing.
Product Components and Benefits
Celery powder contains significant amounts of naturally occurring nitrates, which can be converted into nitrites when treated with bacterial cultures. These nitrites are essential for preserving meats like hot dogs and bacon while maintaining their organic status[1][2]. The antioxidants present in celery powder provide health benefits by supporting detoxification and overall well-being[5].
Product Applications
Celery powder is versatile and can be used in various culinary applications:
- Seasoning: Enhances the flavor of dishes without adding extra salt.
- Organic Meat Preservation: Used as a natural curing agent in products like bacon and hot dogs.
- Ethnic Cuisine: Adds depth and complexity to traditional dishes from around the world[2].
- Health Supplements: Can be used in smoothies or mixed with water for health benefits[5].
